STETE Yearbook 2009
Dear readers,
This yearbook is the first one published by the Finnish Committee for
European Security (STETE). The themes discussed in it reflect
STETE’s activities as well as current issues related to common
European security.
The work of the Finnish Committee for European Security is dedicated to
enhancing dialogue on broad security issues between politicians,
officials, researchers, civil society actors and other non-governmental
organisations. STETE has pursued this goal by organising discussion
panels, seminars and conferences as well as by publishing reports on
topical themes.
During 2009 STETE organised six seminars on important topics such as
Finland’s new security and defence policy report, the
democratisation of Georgia and Armenia, security and threats in an
information society and the current situation in Kosovo. This year
STETE also expanded its activities to Sweden where Finnish and Swedish
participants met to share their international crisis management and
peace building experiences. Throughout the year STETE has also focused
on planning the next Nordic Forum for Security Policy to be held in St.
Petersburg, Russia, in April 2010. The forum will concentrate on
freedom, security and justice as common interests in the Baltic Sea
region. The dialogue on these issues already began at the kick-off
seminar in November 2009 and will continue in St. Petersburg next
April.
On behalf of the Finnish Committee for European Security, I wish you many interesting moments with our first yearbook!
